Robert Kendal Salon’s Outstanding Generosity
Karyn Garren of the Robert Kendal Salon in Palos Heights spoke recently with Treasure Chest Foundation Executive Director Kendra Connor about the Salon’s impressive donation to the Foundation.
Each year, as our annual Gala swiftly approaches, the Treasure Chest Foundation is on the hunt for raffle basket and auction items. For the past two years, Robert Kendal Salon has stepped up and filled a void. This year, thanks to a suggestion from salon employee (and licensed cosmetologist) Karyn Garren, the salon donated a $1,000 Southwest Airlines gift card that was included as part of a live auction item during the Gala. This support was crucial to the event’s success and we are grateful for their involvement.
When I first met with Karyn, she spoke passionately about her deep admiration for the Treasure Chest Foundation. After being introduced to the Foundation by Board of Directors member and dear friend Maureen Cipolla, Karyn felt a strong desire to help in a way that would benefit children and teens fighting cancer. And after learning about some of the wonderful raffle basket and live auction items being planned, she suggested that the Southwest Airlines gift card be included with the live auction Florida Experience trip as a fitting addition.
Since the conclusion of the Gala, Robert Kendal Salon has continued to support the Treasure Chest Foundation by implementing a Caps and Cards Collection which encourages their clients, friends and family members to contribute either a hat or a gift card. The Salon’s generous gift card donations are important because they cater specifically to the needs of our teenage patients, offering them the freedom to choose something they truly desire. Because it is often difficult to buy specific items for teenage cancer patients, the Foundation sends a variety of gift cards to hospitals nationwide, ranging from food establishments to both physical and online stores.
